Sed at metus dignissim, pretium purus in, commodo erat. PERSONALITYYusuke Kitagawa presents himself as a mature and yet odd and eccentric individual. He is mature and highly intelligent and yet prone to strange behaviors and odd social cues. He is passionate and driven; fixating rather easily on the world as it applies to the aspects of it he cares most for. But often that keen eye causes him to neglect other areas of his life. He's often not eating unless others are feeding him for lack of money-- it's certainly not for a lack of love for food, he cares for it very much and has strong opinions on food. Despite being kind natured, he can be very blunt and express strong opinions. He does not filter himself often. You will not see him lie to spare one's feelings often. Rather, he's more likely to tell them the harsh truth, but talk through it with them. But he is just as happy to have others strongly expressing their feelings and opinions to him; debating and learning from it. He is kind to others, whether they are friends or strangers. However he has little patience for those who would speak poorly of or suspect his loved ones, even when he knows deep down those words may have a glimmer of truth behind them. Yusuke is loyal and caring-- once that bond of trust has been formed, it is difficult to fully destroy it. Even Madarame, who hurt Yusuke the most, is someone he cannot bring himself to truly hate even though he rationalizes with himself that he should and tries to do so. There will always be a part of him that lingers on those cherished memories and all that the man had done for him, despite his crimes. He is glad that he is paying for them and would never go back-- but what remains of that bond, he will still keep close. In his every day life he tends to think of everything as it relates to art. People and the world through his eyes appear as great sources of beauty and therefore perfect subjects for his art. He himself is still struggling to understand others, and therefore himself, through his artwork. He admits to having a weak grasp of the concept of love as it relates to himself despite chasing the depiction of it in his art as he saw it through his mother's painting. He did not have the traditional sense of familial love growing up, and his living situation was unique even so; sharing his home with that of Madarame's other pupils in a way that functions and appears more like that of an orphanage situation than a traditional home. When the time is right (or wrong, depending on your view) he enjoys busting out terrible puns and other jokes; as he does when they're turned into mice while exploring Shido's palace. He has a decent sense of humor even as it relates to himself and jokes and insults do not typically bother him much, he's keen to let them roll off of him. Naturally, there are exceptions-- he tends to become defensive and frustrated when people take jabs at his art. While he may be able to rationalize with their reasoning, something like that is very personal for him and he is keen to become competitive and struggle to have it acknowledged and respected. The Phantom Thieves are, to him, the most important people in his lives. Not only is he eternally grateful to them for having saved him from Madarame's exploits and helping him change Madarame's heart-- they are, like him, all outcasts in their own way. And through spending time with them they became the closest thing he had to a home or a place to belong. More than anyone else, he would do anything for them. Even Akechi, who has betrayed them in the past is someone that he would rather see redeemed than hurt and suffering. That relationship is certainly more complicated than the others, but he can understand Akechi's frustrations and pain on a personal level, having also been used by his parental figure. He pities Akechi, although he knows that alone would likely irritate the other. And Ren even more so than the others. It is Ren whom he confides in on his artistic journey after he lost Madarame. Ren was always there to support him and put up with his wild demands and uncertainty. There are no words for how much those moments meant to him and there is nothing Ren could ask of him that he would not do for him. He is both the dear friend that Yusuke cherishes as well as the leader that Yusuke trusts and respects.
